Net Group

Estonian leading company Net Group providing comprehensive IT solutions supplied a new secure IT infrastructure for the Estonian National Defence League. The new secure solution enables the Defence League efficiently administer all the users, positions, and software solutions.

The technical solution introduced in the Defence League is innovative and new in Estonia – it is a virtual infrastructure enabling centrally administer computer jobs locating in all subunits of the Defence League and, if necessary, update them. The objective of the project was consolidating the IT services of the units and taking them to the uniform standardised operation platform and to the common high level as regards its technical capacity and security.

“As a conclusion, it meant a completely new and innovative world-class technical solution, seven months of very intense work, consultation and training of many users and a few poods of salt eaten together,” Priit Kongo, Chairman of the Board of Net Group, said and added that 10 employees of Net Group were involved in the project.

Another significant factor besides security and central administration is saving the resources of the Defence League.

“The most remarkable victory for the Defence League, however, is the administration costs that would considerably decrease after the implementation of the new solution. On the other hand, it is now possible to make everyday (as well as extraordinary) IT maintenance – like software update – in just a few days instead of the prior several months,” head of the communications and information technology department of the Defence League, Vahur Parve, said.

One of the most important objectives of the Defence League’s IT project was ensuring the upmost security and operating safety: thank to the new solution, the systems of all the units are centrally administered and monitored ensuring the required high level of security. Thank to the implementation of the standardised hard- and software platform, also the IT support would improve at the Defence League in addition to the administration thereof.

A recent survey has determined that Net Group is the best-known enterprise providing comprehensive IT solutions in Estonia.

A survey conducted among medium-sized Estonian companies by the Norstat research company in early July established that following the withdrawal of the Microlink trademark, after its merger with Elion Ettevõtted AS, 57% of respondents regarded Net Group as the best-known provider of comprehensive IT solutions.

Other enterprises that provide comprehensive IT solutions, which were pointed out by the respondents, included IT Grupp (24%), MAX 123 (14%) and Uptime (5%).

“For us, the result is what we expected. We have operated with a concerted focus on the Estonian market for 11 years and during this time we have become the strongest provider of comprehensive IT solutions. Also, in view of the fact that the trademark of the best-known operator Microlink was withdrawn from the IT field in Estonia after the merger with Elion, the leading position of Net Group has been a completely natural progression,” said Priit Kongo, the Chairman of the Board of Net Group.

Today, the rapidly growing Net Group provides employment to 80 people. The turnover of Net Group in the first six months of this year was 4 million Euros.

Net Group’s Synerall enlarges its partner network in Europe by signing a dealership agreement with IT Systeme EVU GmbH, and thereby entering the Swiss energy solutions market.
Net Group signed an agreement with Swiss IT company IT Systeme EVU GmbH. According to it, Synerall solutions will be marketed and sold on the Swiss energy market both in CRM and e-commerce.

“The high-level e-commerce solutions and energy portals of Synerall are optimal complements to our TURAS smart metering solutions. Energy consumers can use interactive web portals and e-commerce solutions which open up completely new business opportunities, thereby providing added value and optimising technical sales processes,” said the representative of IT Systeme EVU GmbH, Francisco Marin.
According to Michael Zinsmeister, Synerall Sales and Marketing Manager, Switzerland is facing the liberalisation of the energy market, and therefore this market is also extremely interesting and important for us: “We are very pleased that we can consider IT Systeme EVU GmbH as our competent partner, and in joint co-operation, we also see an increasing potential on the Swiss energy market.”

Only in this way can the working model be introduced and exported to foreign countries.”

The goal of Smart Vormsi is to become a demo environment in the upcoming years, helping to export the created know-how to all countries in the world that recognise they have a problem with peripherisation, and are ready to do something about it. Buy high-quality, not cheap software in procurements

There are many examples of public institutions buying cheap, not high-quality software in procurements. You do not have to look far to see bad planning and insufficient testing as competitive advantages in procurements; this, in turn, has caused dissatisfaction among customers. Analysis of public procurements demonstrates that these software procurements that prefer technical offer to money are more high-quality and successful, and reduce risks for both contracting authorities and providers (companies) of software development.

 Consider smart phones when developing solutions

Web-based solutions which can only be used on desktop computers and laptops, are already outdated technology and do not meet the renewing expectations of future users. It is advisable to consider the options of smart phones and other palm devices when creating all new projects. According to the forecasts by research company Gartner, 50% of e-commerce turnover will be made up of transactions by using mobile devices in the years to come. There is available infrastructure for proper m-solutions also in Estonia. Smart solutions simply have to be invented and “launched”.

Support heterogeneous IT solutions

The IT devices of users are changing. Computer users no longer use only desktop computers and laptops but have to start supporting all sorts of devices which use the IT services of an organisation. These are tablet computers, smart phones and other devices. It is not reasonable to start warding them off; rather you should create a supporting infrastructure and guarantee adequate level of competence within your organisation.

Security solutions on network level

According to the classical computer network – with a server in the centre and a computer in the periphery, security solutions were (and are still) created to the end point, i.e. computer and server. As the end point will now consist of several different devices (tablet computer, smart phone and other devices), then the number of them will be so big that instead of checking the server and end point in a network, computer network and traffic occurring there will be checked. Including whether a user is allowed to be in the network in the first place, and which services can the user access.

Order new applications by using the standards of cloud services

Cloud technology is a reality. Amazon cloud technology can already be accessed in Estonia; access to Microsoft Azure cloud services will be opened in the second half of this year for Estonia. As the applications are programmed on cloud technology in a different way from a usual server, then the new applications have to be designed according to the new standards already when ordering the applications. Access can be guaranteed already now for these customers who are ready to adopt Windows Azure platform for cloud applications.
To put it simply, applications which will be adopted in 2012, have to be designed and realised on cloud services in 2011.
