Desktop solutions
Although almost all information systems of a company are consolidated into high-availability server room, access to information systems must be granted from every workstation and often also from every device connected to the Internet. When creating such accesses, one must consider Internet speed and security of different access points, operation systems of devices, screen size, the interaction options of users with an application, and so on and so forth. Despite the heterogeneous access points, system administrators must be able to provide access to a system in the most standardised way and at minimum cost.
Net Group provides several solutions and options for creating access to information systems and guaranteeing a standardised desktop:
- virtual desktop in server centre (VDI);
- virtual desktop in user terminal;
- automatised central management of desktops.
The computation capacity of central systems has increased in recent years to the extent of it being rational to provide desktops including supporting applications of a business process virtually from a server centre. Compared to the classical terminal solution – which is the usual comparison of these solutions –, the operation systems of all users are isolated from each other, and so the confidentiality of data and configurations have reached a new level. In the case of virtual desktop solution, it is also easier to harmonise with the licensing programmes of software producers. With virtual desktop solution, it is easier to make application software accessible to members of staff who really use the software.
Whereas the main drawback of virtual desktops provided by server centre is the low capacity of multimedia applications, a system working on a user’s terminal has no such flaw. Although the terminal is completely empty at launch, the operation system and application software will be streamed into the terminal when the terminal is switched on. The terminal starts and behaves like a usual desktop. The advantage of the solution is primarily its high-level security – after the terminal is switched off, operation system, application software and user data will be deleted from it.
Despite the options of solutions described above, many companies still prefer the classical model of every desktop having a complete operation system, all necessary application software and user data installed on it. The security and operational ability of these desktops has to be guaranteed as well, and central management server helps to install software and user settings, manage updates and collect security logs on these desktops.
Net Group bears operational ability, security and ease of use of the solutions in mind when developing desktop solutions. Alongside the customer, the efficiency of the investment and daily maintenance will be calculated. The partners of Net Group for developing desktop solutions are Microsoft, Wyse, Symantec, VMware, EMC and Citrix.
